About this taikai:
_________________________________________________________________

The first Irish Bujinkan Dojo Buyu Taikai will take place on Saturday, December 1st 2007 to celebrate Hatsumi Sensei's martial art in Ireland as well as the spirit of buyu, (martial friendship) amongst practitioners of this martial art in Ireland. All instructors in Ireland of Judan (10th dan) rank and above have been invited to attend and share their interpretations of this year's theme of Kukishin Ryū and Kuki Taisō.

Hatsumi Sensei has given his full backing to this taikai. During a discussion with him in September, he said that he thinks it's an excellent idea and he's very happy it's going ahead. Building a strong community spirit is of particular importance in the Bujinkan and he's very happy to see taikai like this start to happen in various countries around the world. In particular, he wanted people in Ireland to know this Irish taikai has his full support. This event now has Soke's official blessing and so should be a landmark event for the Bujinkan in Ireland.

Christmas party & bonenkai :

Following on from last year's extremely successful Christmas party, we will once again hold our annual party and Bonenkai (say-goodbye-to-the-year party) at Hosen Restaurant in Temple Bar from 8pm on. There will only be room for 100 people to attend this party, so if you would like to attend, make sure you reserve a place by contacting your instructor (who will in turn liase with the organiser Ian Hickey).

Alternatively, you can use the discussion forum at www.happobiken.com to express interest. The cost of the evening is 40 euro, payable fully in advance to Ian, through your instructor. (Special thanks to Ian Hickey for his hard work in this area.)

Raffle:

We will also be holding a raffle in aid of charity at this party. The full list of prizes for this raffle will be added at a later date, but already we have some fantastic top prizes. Hatsumi Sensei has specially painted three large-scale sumi-e black ink kakejiku hanging scrolls specially for this raffle

Paintings of this kind by Soke are extremely rare and very valuable. We asked him if he would consider creating one for us as a special favour and instead he insisted on giving us three, as a token of his support. All three are painted on extremely good quality art stock paper, and are over 5ft long, fully mounted in kakejiku scroll form. We are reliably informed that they are worth around €1300 each, so whoever wins the first, second and third prizes should be very happy.

There will be many more prizes on offer. More details on this to come.
